SUMMERUN NORTH 2012

The inaugural Summerun North was run at Bellingham's Marine Park, with 19 participants ranging in age from 4 to 93. The winning time for the ~ 3 mile "race" was posted by Woody; 1 hr 5 minutes.  However,  Woody (not shown) stopped to play on the swings and was pushed the rest of the way in a wheeled contraption by Sally, his mother (also not shown; probably chasing after Woody). The sky was murky and a little drizzle fell, but the hotdogs were excellent. Note the snazzy "Linda's Team" T-shirts.

We hope to have another Summerun North next year.

Today is the one-year anniversary of Linda's burial.

  1. Myrl, I missed the date connection. So many hurdles to go over in this grief process. Thank you for organizing today and encouraging the contributions to cancer research.

  2. For those of you not entirely in the loop, the real Summerun originates at Seattle’s Swedish Hospital, is 5 km in length, and is a fund-raiser for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research. It had upwards of several thousand participants and raised roughly $500,000. Summerun North was created to accommodate people from Bellingham who wanted to contribute, but objected to getting up at 5:30 am, driving to Seattle, there to be intimidated by sleek young athletes intent on running sub- 6 minute miles. Summerun North by contrast started at 10:00 am, all participants walked the ~ 3mile course (except Woody, who was pushed in a stroller), we numbered upwards of several dozen, and we raised something more than $700. A good start; we will do better next year.

  3. Three CHEERS for Linda's Team! Well done! Tried to donate before we left for Vegas - want to be sure donation goes to 'Linda's Team', but web site wouldn't take our donation(how did I mess that up?). Will write a check for you to deliver.
